| Quake survivor launches appeal |
Ruth Millington remembers waking up in her collapsed hotel room |
After reading about the British woman who dug her way out of a collapsed hotel after the Iran earthquake, I was very interested in the Ruth's endeavor in launching the appeal to help survivors and two tour guides who came to her aid.
Ruth Millington, 34, has launched the Bam Earthquake Appeal to raise cash to support two hospitals treating quake survivors from Bam. The Milad Hospital in Tehran and the Razieh Firouz Hospital in Kerman - which only has 50 beds - are struggling to cope with the thousands of people injured in the disaster. Ms Millington, a lawyer from Sheffield, was caught up in the Boxing Day earthquake during a two-week holiday in Iran.
She hopes some of the cash will also go to the families of tour guides Jalaladin Mehdizeeh and Hussein Vatany who gave Ms Millington food, shelter and help in the aftermath. Ms Millington took it upon herself to find out which hospitals the other injured guests, had been taken to. She also began trying to get other injured people to the nearest hospitals.
